Finals week is near, the academic week that all students here at Saint Leo University fear! This is a week that has everyone in a frenzy and on edge.

However, with proper preparation and proactive behavior, this week can be like any other week here on campus. By gathering all study materials, reserving time to study, getting enough sleep, and eating healthy foods, finals will be a walk in the park. Here are a few tips to dominate this finals season.

Creating A Study Plan

To survive finals, it is imperative to have a study schedule. When you do not have a schedule, you are easily distracted and end up wasting time. A schedule can be easily created on your mobile device, in a planner, or even on a blank piece of paper.

The creation of a planner allows you to visualize your daily tasks and assignments to complete them in a timely manner. It should be designed based on your learning style and include specific study times. During these study times, you should revise your material in a good environment free from distractions.

Likewise, taking breaks between study sessions is also important. When creating a study schedule, it is also essential to provide yourself with a period strictly for de-stressing activities.

Some destressing activities that Saint Leo students can take part in are taking a stroll around campus or scheduling time to enjoy classical music at Benedict’s Coffee House. Similarly, other de-stressing activities that students can participate in on our campus are kayaking at Lake Jovita or even enjoying a workout session at the Wellness Center.

Prioritizing Sleep & Eating Well

Resting during finals is something that most students disregard and overlook during finals. Research from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute reveals that receiving enough sleep enhances decision-making and learning skills.

Carlyia Miller, a junior double majoring in Accounting and Hospitality Management said during an interview “taking naps and prioritizing sleep is one of the many ways that I succeed during finals. It allows me to retain information, remain alert, and stay focused.”

Besides this, eating healthy during finals also provides you with the necessary energy needed to survive during examination week. Research from the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health reveals that healthier foods provide the body with vital nutrients needed to enable the body to function for more extended periods of time.

Although fast food or fatty foods may seem more appealing, it is crucial to consume healthier foods during finals!

The Bottom Line

Creating a study schedule, taking time for yourself, eating healthier foods, and prioritizing sleep are a few tips that you can use to succeed this finals season!
