Dr. David Persky Spotlight

The Lions’ Pride Newspaper would like to pay tribute to faculty and staff for playing a key role in making Saint Leo University’s environment a great place to learn. This week’s spotlight is on Dr. David Persky who is Assistant to the President at Saint Leo University and is also currently acting as the Saint Leo University’s Board of Governors’ General Counsel until a new General Counsel comes in on September 26, 2011. Dr. Persky earned his B.A. in social science from Southern Methodist University, his M.S. in personnel counseling from Miami University in Ohio, his Ph.D. in higher education from Florida State University, and his J.D. from Stetson University College of law.

Foreign students have C.L.A.S.P. in class

Among many new features on the Saint Leo campus is a group committed to students who are not from the United States. C.L.A.S.P. is a new addition to the Learning Resource Center where students from different cultures find comfort in seeking help with homework, social life, and interpreting other issues while living on campus.

The word around Saint Leo is that there’s a new coach in town. There’s a new Men’s Soccer Coach with a great history and even brighter future: Keith Fulk is a new addition to the Lions this season, looking to take over an already talented team.

Women’s Lacrosse Team

Be a part of a history as Saint Leo University debuts its women’s lacrosse team in the fall of 2011. This will be Saint Leo’s 17th NCAA Division II sports team to be created, and the 9th all women’s sports team to be added to the University. After the creation of the men’s lacrosse team in 2006, the time has finally come for the competitive female team players at Saint Leo.

Damaged Fire Hydrant Results in Loss of Water Pressure

On Thursday, March 3 at approximately 10:10 a.m., a delivery truck transporting equipment drove over a fire hydrant near the on-campus construction, causing a pipe to break and water to flood the surrounding area. Since the hydrant was connected to the main campus water line, the water pressure for Saint Leo had to be suspended while the hydrant was capped off.

School’s Out for Spring!

Students have been counting down the days until March 12, the start of spring break at Saint Leo. Most students will be heading to Daytona Beach for the week, while others are going home to colder weather. Either way, it is time off from school, and who doesn’t love a vacation? Some other hot spots for the break are Panama City, Miami, and Jacksonville.

Saint Leo ROTC Program

This spring, Saint Leo University’s Army ROTC program will be undergoing a change of command that will continue the tradition of growth and excellence that is characteristic of the Army core values. Captain Bryan Dunker will be relieving Major Stephen Wills as the head of the ROTC program. “I hope to take the outstanding ROTC program that Major Wills created in only three years and build from that strong foundation,” Dunker said.
