Last week, a select group of students from the sport business program got the opportunity to travel to New Orleans to see some of the behind-the-scenes preparation for the Super Bowl. On Tuesday morning, six students and Dr. Williamson left Saint Leo and drove seven hours to Louisiana. Upon arrival, the group picked up their credentials and toured New Orleans briefly before their week of work began.
The process to become a Resident Assistant (RA) is one that has multiple steps and requires candidates to show to the Residence Life staff why they feel that they are the best person for the job. As someone who has applied for the job in the past, I found several do’s and don’ts that a candidate should consider when going through the process of becoming an RA.
Indeed, our upcoming graduates have contributed anywhere from 3 ½ to 7 ½ years of education, training, and commitment to higher learning. With only one hundred days left, the true test of what these students have learned from the past years comes to play. Quality is a simple word, but it means a lot. Especially when it comes to how a student decides to buy their textbooks. It seems like an easy decision, but the cheapest price does not always guarantee that a place is going to have good service, be timely, or have decent quality textbooks in time for class.
Strong sense of community, student leadership experience, and free room and board. These are all perks of being a Residence Assistant, more commonly known as an RA. With applications for the 2013-2014 year going live on Monday, Feb. 1, interested students are polishing up their resumes and preparing for the first interviews.
This year Saint Leo University held its annual Winter Formal dance on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at the Hilton Hotel in Tampa. This year’s theme was Alice in Wonderland. The dance featured oversized teacups as centerpieces, the Cheshire Cat’s mischievous smile on the wall, and wonderful colors all around the room. As most campus activities functions begin, the students were picked up in coach buses at Campus Safety and shuttled to the destination.
With final exams coming up in the next few weeks, students need to start studying for all of their classes. Finals place a huge amount of pressure on students, and if you wait until the last minute, you will not be nearly as successful as if you had started early.
Phi Alpha Theta (PAT), an American Honor Society, was established in 1921 at the University of Arkansas by Professor Nels Cleven. This is an attractive group history. From the outset to now, PAT has been spread into many famous universities with 350,000 members. Saint Leo University has been a member of PAT since 2003, and there are about 20 professors and students participating in PAT.
On Oct. 24, Herberts Fecker, along with his wife Dwila, visited the University campus with their mixed Labrador Golden Retriever, Jet, to inform the community about Southeastern Guide Dogs and their mission to the sight-impaired.
