In a world often dominated by romantic tales, there is a growing movement to celebrate love in all its forms, including the cherished bonds of friendship. Enter Galentine’s Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the love and friendship shared between friends, regardless of romantic relationship status.

Galentine’s Day, celebrated on Feb. 13, is a time for the girlies to come together and appreciate each other’s presence in their lives. Unlike Valentine’s Day, which traditionally focuses on romantic love, Galentine’s Day celebrates platonic love and the invaluable role that friends play in our lives. It is a day to acknowledge the laughter, support, and companionship that friends provide, offering a refreshing alternative to the sometimes-overwhelming emphasis on romantic relationships.

Moreover, Galantine’s Day holds significance for many reasons, particularly in a world where loneliness and social isolation are prevalent. Not everyone has a romantic partner, but nearly everyone has friends who enrich their lives in countless ways. Galentine’s Day provides an opportunity to express gratitude for these friendships and strengthen the bonds that sustain us through life’s highs and lows.

“Although I do have plans for Valentine’s Day this year with my significant other, I am still celebrating Galantine’s Day with my friends. It is a true opportunity for us to express not only the love that we have for ourselves but also the love that we share for each other on this holiday,”said Raygan Nairn, a junior majoring in business marketing.

A few ways that females around campus can celebrate Galantine’s Day with their friends is by hosting brunches, planning movie marathons, and engaging in relaxing activities, such as the spa, together.

This Valentine’s season, instead of your typical brunch or dinner with friends, you can turn up the heat in this season of love by dressing in the festive shades of pink or red and engaging in fulfilling conversations with the girls over delicious food!

For a movie night, a marathon of romance films can be organized with a side of delicious buttery popcorn and cozy blankets. Both Galantine’s date ideas can end with low or high budget gift exchanges. Show your friends how much they mean to you by exchanging small tokens of appreciation, such as handwritten notes, homemade treats, or personalized gifts that reflect their interests.

Galentine’s Day offers a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the power of friendship and the importance of nurturing meaningful connections in our lives. Whether you are single, in a relationship, or somewhere in between, Galentine’s Day invites everyone to join in the festivities and embrace the love that surrounds them.

So, this Feb. 13, gather your closest friends, celebrate each other’s uniqueness, and cherish the bond that makes life a little brighter. Happy Galentine’s Day, Saint Leo!
