Name: Aliceison Shantel Brown

Major: Political Science

Class standing: Freshman

SGU position you applied for: Vice President of Student Activities

What experience do you have which makes you qualified for the position you’re running for and a better choice than your opponent(s)?

I am a Student Government Union Senator, I have served on CAB as a member of the Traditions Committee, I was recently elected as the Pi Sigma Alpha Recruitment Chair, and I am also creating a club for our first generation students/students who are struggling with the transition into a college lifestyle/setting. This club will be set to enter the Saint Leo campus this fall. As you have read, I am very involved in all things Saint Leo, and I believe I can bring a lot to the table on how to make the campus of Saint Leo a wonderful place for generations to come!

Why do you want this position and what/who inspired or motivated you to run?

I was inspired to join this position when I stepped onto Saint Leo’s campus. I knew from day one I wanted to get more involved in all things Saint Leo. In high school and in my neighborhood I have held various leadership roles, all the way from class president to being in charge of the northern part of my city as a professional canvassing leader. All my accomplishments leading up to today have prepared me to hold and prosper in this position.

What do you hope to accomplish and how do you plan to accomplish these goals in your position?

I hope to accomplish many great things surrounding the Student Government Union Vice President of Activities. My first goal is to upgrade monthly Bingo. Next, I will pride myself on getting the student population more engaged in coming out to all the wonderful activities taking place on campus. These are just two of my many major goals I have outlined for the position Vice President of Activities. I will accomplish these goals by the support of our Saint Leo students, along with the tools I possess from my knowledge of serving on the Student Government Union as senator and serving on the Traditions Committee.

What would your first action in office be, if you are elected?

My first action I would address is the issue surrounding our Bingo Game Night Mystery Box. Many come out to our fantastic bingo games and are mesmerized by the fantastic prizes lining the table. But, the one thing that catches everyone’s eyes is the infamous Mystery Box. We all want to know what is in it; if you get bingo, you have the chance to take your initial prize or risk your luck with the Mystery Box. Many have lost far better prizes while attempting to win the Mystery Box. I want winning the Mystery Box to be a wonderful experience for all, even those on the outside looking in, to take a chance and feel great about winning instead of winning and losing at the same time.
