Joseph D. Thompson III , a Junior Sport Business major, sat with the Lion’s Pride Newspaper  and talked about his Candidancy for Presidency of  the Student Government Election.

What experience do you have which makes you qualified for the position you’re running for and a better choice than your opponent(s)?

I have served as your Vice President of Activities for the past two years at Saint Leo University. Being on the e-board in the past, I have seen two different forms of presidents and I would love to merge these two styles while incorporating my own. I also feel very knowledgeable about all of the other positions on the e-board to lead a future e-board.

Why do you want this position and what/who inspired or motivated you to run?

I want this position because I finally feel like I am capable of leading an SGU executive board. I have a real passion for the Saint Leo University students and want to be a big part in their experience here at Saint Leo. My mentor and one of my closest friends, Luckson Abraham, the 2015-2016 President of the Student Government Union, motivated me to run and has endorsed me as a candidate.

What do you hope to accomplish and how do you plan to accomplish these goals in your position?

I want to help raise the school spirit here on the University Campus. I want students to feel proud that they attend Saint Leo University. I plan to accomplish these goals by answering all questions asked by the student body. I also want to stress the importance of our core values while giving back to the outside community.

What would your first action in office be, if you are elected?

I would sit down with all my board members and come up with a strategic plan on how we can give back to the University in our term. The SGU e-board is the voice of the student body and we should represent every demographic that makes it up. I really want to focus on making this University better from within and making the brand of SGU as solid as possible. If we do this, our retention rate would rise due to the fact that students would love being here at this amazing University.
