Summer is right around the corner and the question on most student’s minds is, “What to do in the summer that is beneficial for me?”

A great summer opportunity that is beneficial is internships. You can be an intern, with a job that will help you grow, and learn more about what you are studying.

For a student who wants to be in the medical field, being an intern at a clinic or a hospital can help, and most importantly, they get hands-on experience with what they aspire to be.

You can research internships to get you ahead, and gain understanding, as well as acquire more knowledge. It also helps you step out of your comfort zone.

Internships are highly beneficial, not only providing more knowledge and hands on experiences, but they also look great on resumes.

Another summer opportunity is getting a job in the summer. Jobs allow you to have money to budget, so you can spend and save in a way that is beneficial to you.

It is a learning experience, and teaches you time management, which is very vital when being a college student.

Jobs teach us responsibility, and they are a glimpse into the real world.

“Since I am graduating this semester, I’m going to be applying for jobs. I want to work on my skills, so I’ll read some books and articles about my field, as well as skills on the side, such as continuing to learn Hawaiian. I always want to improve myself and my skills,” said Alicia Sillen, a senior majoring in marketing.

A job helps us to gain more knowledge and experience with balancing responsibility and managing finances.

“Jobs are plentiful,” said Professor Robert Imperato, a professor of religion.

While the summer is a time for us to get a break, we can still use our time wisely.

Getting a job that relates to your major allows you to learn about it more, so when you go into your new classes, you already have an idea about what you’re studying.

Getting a job that does not relate to your major but interests you allows you to meet new people, practice teamwork, responsibility, leadership, and effort, and have fun doing what you enjoy.

To get ahead, and get prepared for the fall 2024 semester, you can also take online classes in the summer to get more credits. This can better prepare you, and it gives you something to do in the summer that will be beneficial to you.

In summer, there can be a lot of free time, therefore, instead of having 5-6 classes, you can focus on 1-2 classes, which will be a lot simpler and easier because you are less stressed.

Summer is a time to catch the sun and a break, but also for students to grow through internships, jobs, and academics, setting a positive tone for the upcoming year.

Make a vision board about your dream job, do research, and get creative in the summer.
