Women’s Basketball Suffers Tough Loss on Senior Night

This past game on Feb. 27 was Saint Leo’s women basketball final home game for the seasons. The contest was against the Florida Southern Moccasins who ran past the Lions giving them an unwanted finish to their home schedule. 

Before the tip, of the green and gold had their seniors come up for honor because of the senior night. They had two students graduating this year in forward Casey Wortley and guard Asia Royster. Wortley was a Master of Criminal Justice Behavior Studies while playing in her final collegiate year. She played in 26 games shooting 40 percent tallying 287 points as the teams leading scorer. All this while getting 154 rebounds for 5.9 rebounds a game. Royster was a psychology major as she played three of the four years at Saint Leo. She earned 47 appearances and 36 starts ending with a 39 recent field goal percentage and 479 points. All this while grabbing 271 rebounds and 123 assists. 

Early in the game, Southern went on a 15 point run to bring the game to a crazy 18-2 score. Wortley then went off for six straight points making a three-pointer, layup, and jumper. This eventually brought the score to 21-9. The Mocs opened the second quarter with a five point run to bring the score to 28-9. The gap was eventually cut down to 15 bringing the halftime score to 42-27. The lead was brought back up to 20 to close a four point run making the score 62-42. The lead then increased to 22 and they never looked back bring the final score to 76-55.
