On the evening of Feb. 20, Saint Leo University played against the University of Tampa at the Marion Bowman Activities Center.

In their second game against the University of Tampa this season, Saint Leo women’s basketball was defeated 59-46. This challenging game leaves Saint Leo in the standings with one more loss.

The Lions led the first quarter of the game where they had their largest lead of 6 points. During the game, Saint Leo took several three-point shots that were not successful. They made 25 percent of their three-point shots in the contest. In contrast to Saint Leo, University of Tampa had a 60 percent three-point shooting percentage which made a significant difference in the outcome of the game. However, Saint Leo was much more efficient in free throws with an 82 percent performance against 62 percent for Tampa. Unfortunately, that was insufficient for a win.

University of Tampa had a big performance from Staja Tyghter and Dori Nagy who together scored a total of 40 points. The University of Tampa won the game because of their hard work. Overall, both teams did their best and learned what to keep or to improve for the next games.

Nevertheless, the Lions have two more games left. One is against Florida Southern, and the other one is against Barry. Those are promising games that can bestow the Saint Leo women’s basketball team a better spot in the standings. Saint Leo had encountered both of the upcoming opponents in previous games. Therefore, it will be easier for the Lions to face Florida Southern and Barry with predicted tactics and hopefully finish the season with two additional wins.
