November 15, 2019 in the Marian Bowman Activities Center marked the day 25 became the Saint Leo’s Women’s Volleyball team’s lucky number. Why you ask? This is the magic number that they scored at the end of each set during their latest victory against the Florida Institute of Technology’s Panthers. With a total point scored of 75 compared to Florida Tech’s 37, the Women’s Volleyball team is yet another example of Saint Leo’s dedication for the court.
Before the game began, supporters, including fans, students, parents, and facility all gathered in the stands nearly filling every seat available. After everyone stood up for the Saint Leo’s anthem song by one of Saint Leo’s facility members, and all the players were properly introduced, the game was underway.
Although everyone was focus on the players, the Saint Leo community took a moment away from the court to focus on saluting American military soldiers of the past in honor of Veterans Day, which took place on Monday November 11th.
The intensity of the match stayed consistent not just on the court, but in the stands as well. With the crowd stomping in their seats and screaming their hearts out every time a member of Saint Leo’s Volleyball team scored, it’s no wonder the team gave this game 110% from start to finish.
With balls flying up and across the court, this game kept its audience on the edge of the seats with fast reactions, last minute moves, and slick strategies from both teams, leading the audience to drop their jaws multiple times throughout the game.
For the Head Couch Jason Skoch, this victory is an amazing result. With over 14 years of experience as a head coach, including more than 400 wins under his belt, he has seen both the struggles and success players experiences on and off the court.
Although he has only recently become the Head Couch at Saint Leo in January of 2019, thanks to his long history on the court, he recognizes that the Women’s Volleyball team has had difficulties in the past getting on the same page. However, he also acknowledges that during this game he felt that the entire team was present and had good energy during the match.
The game concluded with an outstanding win for Saint Leo and it wasn’t just because of the candy apples being served outside the court that made this victory sweet. What made this victory a real treat is knowing the Saint Leo’s Women’s Volleyball team committed themselves to staying in sync while they were present on the court and even if one of them fell, they brushed themselves off, and got right back up.
