Saint Leo women’s lacrosse has been on a tear this season previously posting an incredible 7-1 record; they even set a team record in points in a game with 24 against Tusculum. However, every team has to lose at some point, and the last game, March 22 against New York Institute of Technology, was the Lions’ time; nevertheless, it was still a close and competitive match-up as the final score was 12-6. Sophomore Sabrina Sanacore converted a free position shot early on to put Saint Leo on the board first. Junior Leslie Ferguson also scored, eventually tying up the game 2-2. Unfortunately, the Bears scored four unanswered goals to end the half, making it 6-2. Sophomore Delaney Chrisco scored a man-down goal giving the Lions their third score. Ferguson continued to shine as she put together three more goals, two coming back-to-back and the other coming in a man-up situation. However, it was not enough as the Bears’ offense was too tough to hold this time around. The Bears outshot the Lions 35-25 and had control of the groundball game with a 30-20 difference. Despite the loss, Ferguson had a big day, and was still able to put up a four-goal performance. Of these four-goals two were off free position shots while she picked up four groundballs and caused two turnovers. Ferguson is on the heels of breaking two school season records in goals and points in a single season; her last performance raises her season count to 37 and her point total to 47; the school record is 45 goals and 52 points. Next up Saint Leo prepares for back-to-back games on the road Saturday, March 24, at 11 a.m. Saint Leo faces Young Harris as they hope to get back on a winning track.
