Lady Lions Thrash Embry-Riddle

The Lady Lions delivered a dominating performance to the Embry-Riddle Eagles on Wednesday, January 15th at the Marian Bowman Activities Center. The Eagles came into the contest with a five-win, nine loss record overall, and a three-win, five loss record in conference play. The Lions entered the game with six wins and nine losses overall and three wins and five losses in the conference. Then, the Lady Lions got hot!

The final score of the game was Saint Leo: 79, and Embry-Riddle: 66. After the first quarter, play was close and the Lady Lions only held a one-point lead, but they played fiercely and expanded on the lead throughout the second quarter and took a five-point lead into halftime.

After the half, the Lady Lions came out with the same energy and continued to distance themselves from the eagles, expanding their lead by another 6 points. Now firmly in control, the Lady Lions cruised to end of the game and beat the Eagles by 13 points when the buzzer ended.

The Lions finished the game shooting .518 from the floor, well above the eagles’ .353 shooting percentage. Saint Leo also took care of the ball better, with only 12 turnovers compared to 15 by the opposing team.

The Lions had four players with double digit points, including Alani Gallagher, with 22 points, and Amanda Ulrich with 20 points. Ulrich has scored 20+ points in five games this year, while Gallagher has scored 20+ four times. Further proving their consistency, Both Ulrich and Gallagher have each score 10+ points in 13 games this season.

Next game up for the Lady Lions is a home game vs. Barry on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 5:30 p.m.  The Lions will put on a basketball festival, Hoopapalooza with doors opening at 4:30 p.m. Be sure to come out and support your Lions!
