The Saint Leo Lion’s Might Have Been Knocked Down but Their Spirits Are Still High
On Wednesday, February 24, the Saint Leo’s women’s basketball team went up against the ladies from Eckerd college. The scoreboards might convince you that Saint Leo’s Lions were up against an overwhelming force but make no mistake, this was a match of high suspense from start to finish.
The Women’s Head Coach Anthony Crocitto, with more than two decades worth of experience coaching women’s basketball, can easily recognize the skills of the opposing players and improve his team in aspects such as efficiency on the court.
With high energy and strong teamwork, the Lions fought to the bitter end and even when accepting their defeat, they went out proud and smiling. This good sportsmanship could be seen throughout the game with players lending each other a hand when they fell and playing without arguments.
Like the old saying, ‘it’s not whether you win or lose it’s how you play the game’, it’s vital for both the victors and runners up to recognize improvements and focus on building a strong team rather than fixating on the final results.
Speaking of not obsessing over the scoreboards, let us not forget Saint Leo University takes Pride in promoting its Core Values on and off the court, such as how they promoted donating to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to save the lives of children.
It’s examples like this that remind people that Saint Leo doesn’t just think of victory, it also thinks about giving to a worthy cause. If you cheered on the Saint Leo Lion’s at this game, instead of thinking about the results why not visit https://www.stjude.org/ say ‘Make a donation to end childhood cancer’.
