Despite the many struggles of being in college, the Saint Leo University Women’s Basketball team brought only their game with them when they stepped on the court to play against Eckerd January 19th. The win against rival school broke a five game losing streak. The win on that night was significant for more than breaking the streak; it was also the lions first conference win this season. Many Leo players were under the spotlight as they gave it all they had to defeat Eckerd.

For Senior Brittany Carannante, the night was special also. She set a new career high for herself scoring 28points. That’s not all Brittany contributed though; she showed her true ability to be a leader as she led the Lions in steals and assist. As a team, the Lions held strong on both offense and defense as sophomore Chanelle Patton racked up 10 rebounds and Chelsea Williams played hard in the paint adding 8 points to the score. The Lions showed their strengths all over throughout the whole game even at the free throw line making 20 of 26. The Saint Leo University Lions showed up as a team, played as a team, and won as a team.

The Lady Lions Basketball team is filled with talent from the senior class down to the new additions in the freshman class. The women’s basket-ball team has been growing together as a team throughout the season and although they have had some difficulty winning games, they found what works on Eckerd. The girls on the team never stop working their hardest and always show up to every game with a fresh start brushing off any possible upsets from before. It’s always exciting to win a game but even more exciting when a team can win a game and say it was because they stepped up in every aspect of the game they play. The Lady Lions showed strengths against Eckerd that will hopefully continue as they prepare to play Palm Beach Atlantic over the weekend.
