As students enjoy this fall season, romanticizing life through music is a great way to get into the holiday spirit, and what better way to do that than to make the ultimate fall playlist to listen to your favorite songs of the season.

Saint Leo University students, Jordan Day, a senior music major who sings as a tenor two and is currently the assistant director for the music program, and Jadelene Ortiz, a senior criminal justice major with a music minor, contributed some of their favorite fall tunes and had some insightful perspectives on why music plays such a big role in every season.

Through Day and Ortiz’s combined music expertise, they suggested some songs which they think perfectly represent this holiday season.

Their song recommendations include: “He Loves Me” (Lyzel in E Flat) by Jill Scott, “Out My Mind Just In Time” by Erykah Badu, and “Beauty” by Dru Hill, “Sweater Weather” by The Neighborhood, “Lovers Rock” by TV girl, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Frankie Valli, “Just The Two Of Us” by Bill Withers and Grover Washington Jr., and “We Fell In Love In October” by Girl in Red.

This fall playlist contains songs from varying genres, but they all connect in one way; they romanticize the fall season for everyone.

Ortiz shared that in an effort to romanticize the season, a strong music playlist combined with a scenic setting can turn to amplify the enjoyment of the fall experience, such as taking a night stroll on campus while listening to your favorite fall music.

Day said, “I love that seasons can invoke a feeling with music and how music can invoke a feeling of a season.”

He elaborated that music could work to express the feelings that come with certain seasons, whether those feelings are joyful or sorrowful. Listening to a special holiday playlist allows listeners to get in the upbeat holiday spirit or overcome the gloomy and chilly days that naturally come with fall weather.

Even if your music taste does not fit or align with mainstream fall music, taking the time to create your own personalized playlist can elevate your holiday experience through connecting your memories to music. This fun activity fosters creativity and nostalgia, which will certainly bring joyful memories for years to come.
