In Time introduces a world where money doesn’t exist and people stop aging after they turn twenty five, which might seem ideal for many. Thanks to Oscar nominated Screenwriter-Director, Andrew Niccol, viewers learn that a world like this isn’t so much a dream as it is a nightmare. The catch is that after the first twenty-five years of life, each person is given one year. Since time is the new currency, in order to stay alive they must work to earn time on their clock. Not only is time the only thing keeping someone alive, it’s also what must be used to pay for everything and anything. Everyone in the less fortunate time zones struggle to keep their clocks ticking.
In this future world, each of the social classes live apart from each other in different parts of the world, which are called time zones. One of the lowest zones is the ghetto of Dayton, where Will Salas (Justin Timberlake) lives with his mother, Rachel Salas (Olivia Wilde). The two struggle to earn enough time just to get by day to day. After a long day of work, Will heads to a local bar to meet with his long time good friend, Borel (Johnny Galecki). Borel points out Henry Hamilton (Matt Bomer), who has over a century of time on his clock. When Fortis (Alex Pettyfer), leader of the Minuetmen Gang shows up to clear out Henrys time, Will steps up to help him escape from the bar. After settling somewhere safe, Will learns the intricacies about the system and how it works. The sunrises and Will wakes up with over a century of time and soon finds Henry dead.
The death of Wills mother pushes him over the edge. Fed up with the system, he sets out on a journey to end the suffering of the people in the lower zones. He travels to New Greenwich Zone, where the wealthiest of the people live endlessly. During his travels, the timekeepers find Henry’s body. Will, who was last seen with him, is wrongfully accused of murder. Head timekeeper, Raymond Leon (Cillian Murphy) tracks him down. Meanwhile, Will find himself at a poker table gambling time with the world’s wealthiest man, Phillipe Weis (Vincent Kartheiser)and his beautiful daughter Sylvia Weis (Amanda Seyfried). In a short amount of time, Will and Sylvia become intimate, but unfortunately the timekeepers break up the party and strip him of all but two hours of his time. As Will races against the clock, he entangles Sylvia into the murder plot against him. In a hurry to bring down the whole system and end the struggle for many, Will must choose to help himself or help mankind.
In time grabs the attention of the viewer and easily maintains it throughout the 109 minute runtime. The romance between Will and Sylvia kelp push the plot along as well as the family ties between Sylvia and her father. The story world is easily understood as well as the different character roles. There were many adrenaline filled action scenes that gave the movie an on the edge of your seat feeling. All of the actors and actresses that played in the movie played their roles very well. In time is definitely worth seeing.
