The Holy Spirit was in the air on Sunday, Feb. 4, as the community, and students at Saint Leo University came together to worship Jesus and to hear his word with the new Truth Seekers Church during their first service.

Truth Seekers Church is a Non-Denominational Church in Selby Auditorium, next to Lewis Hall. Services take place at 6:30 P.M. every Sunday.

The atmosphere at Truth Seekers Church is very welcoming; everyone greets you with smiles and wants to get to know and talk to you. These little touches make it feel like the Church staff care for you and want to make a personal connection.

The Pastor of this church, Mike D’Ambrosio, who is also the mayor of the town of Saint Leo and the Chief of University Safety and Management, delivered a very impactful message about how he came to his relationship with Jesus and about love that resonated with every member who was there, regardless of their walk of life.

Everyone left the service feeling encouraged and happy that they spent time with and learned more about the word of God.

“I hope this church will help the community and students to grow in their faith and to develop a relationship with Christ,” commented Tamar Olguin Alzate, a sophomore majoring in clinical psychology, who also assists in leading worship during church services.

Starting a new church required a lot of preparation and mental struggle, but everyone rose to the occasion and helped create a welcoming environment filled with Jesus.

“The first service was amazing, God did work his ways and used everyone there” remarked Olguin Alzate.

There was so much to love about the church that it was difficult to pinpoint just one aspect, but for Saint Leo students, there were a few popular topics.

“The worship, I love singing and playing guitar, it is a big passion of mine” said Olguin Alzate.

“My favorite part about the new Truth Seekers Church service was hearing Pastor Mike message. Something he said resonated with me and made me think of my aunt and close friend who recently passed away” said Luigi Meschino, a sophomore political science major at Saint Leo University.

Madison Melendez, a sophomore majoring in criminal justice and a student leader of the Truth Seekers Church remarked that “seeing everyone worshiping, singing and praising the Lord was a great thing.”

Olguin Alzate wants to encourage people who may be afraid to start going to a new church.

“Please do not be afraid to come to church, it is very understanding, feel free to come just as you are,” Olguin Alzate remarked. “You do not need to worry about anyone judging you because we are doing this so that Jesus can be seen.”
