As Spring 2021 rolls around, Saint Leo University students can find a whole new set of classes to indulge themselves in. Whether they are online classes or campus-based, students have numerous options for an exciting and educational spring semester.

When selecting a class, it is important to check what courses align with individual areas of study. Students can talk to their Success Coaches and find enjoyable classes on their Program Evaluation to advance their major.

However, students are required to take 28 credit hours’ worth of electives and electives allow students to take courses for pleasure rather than demand.

Briana Williams, a senior majoring in criminal justice, recommended for students take ART100: Beginning Pottery. She claims this was one of her favorite courses to take because it allowed her to unwind; it was a course that helped her with the stresses of other college courses.

It also taught her the importance of self-care, as it made her realize that college can be a fun environment for her to enjoy.

“Anyone who is a high-stressor like me should take this course because it is relaxing and stress-free,” said Williams.

This course will be offered next semester on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:40 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.

Sophomore Isangeley Lopez recommends ENG210CL, Love and Desire in Literature, to students for next semester. It was an elective she thoroughly enjoyed taking when she first arrived at the university.

Along with the elective credit Lopez received, this course also counted as a credit under the University Explorations’ Creative Life category.

“We look at books famous for their love stories and try to figure out why they are so loved and how they affect our society,” said Lopez.

Lopez encourages students to take the class.

“Books give insight into how our society works and how we all live in it,” she said. “I think it’s important.”

With Dr. Allyson Marino as her professor, she felt the class to be a friendly environment that allowed for students to have diverse points of view.

This class will be offered next semester on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 P.M. to 2:20 P.M. and will be taught by Dr. Kate Sweeney Postle.

PSY110HA, Psychological Well-Being, is another elective that doubles up as a credit under University Explorations. This past semester, freshmen Yvenie Desrosiers-Pierre enjoyed taking part of Psychological Well-Being, “because of how enlightening it was.”

“I appreciated how much it taught me about taking care of my mental health and finding healthy coping mechanism to deal with stress,” said Desrosiers-Pierre.

“College is a whole stress in itself so this class was able to help me deal with my stress in ways that wouldn’t be effecting my health,” Desrosiers-Pierre added. “I just think it’s important for freshman to be informed about information like this, so they make better choices.”

She recommends this course to all freshmen to help set a foundation for the college experience. This course is being taught by several professors next semester at multiple times; it would be best to do personal research to find what works well with individual schedules.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic still being in full effect, classes next semester will still be offered through online, hybrid, and connected formats. Nonetheless, students should still expect to have a semester of numerous, enjoyable courses to help them have an excellent college experience.

PSY110HA is a course that uses psychological approaches to enhance physical, cognitive, and emotional well-being. It is meant to help with stress management and the understanding of oneself.

As Fall 2020 ends, students should create their spring schedules as soon as possible. Many classes have already been filled and closed.

Registration started Oct. 18th but will not end till Jan. 18th, so students are still able to add as many classes as they need.
