Spring Break Fiasco

Spring Break is just around the corner and with a whole week off school it can be hard to think of things to do that won’t put a hole in your wallet. For most students spring break is the school break during which they would rather spend their time with friends. With Florida’s perfect weather it seems like the obvious place to stay in and explore. Some students will be flying out of state, or driving out of town to spend time with their families or friends. But, what if you are stuck on campus, the local area or just haven’t given a thought to spring break?

Firstly Florida is the perfect spot for a vacation such as this, the weather is pretty ideal, and there are numerous beaches and activities to carry out.  If you are trying to be conscious of your expenditure, sticking to the local area and doing activities that aren’t too costly would be the obvious choice. Beaches are never as packed with students than during spring break and the summer, and there’s no explanation needed given it is a perfect way to kick back, relax and soak up the sun. For those who need spring break to catch up on schoolwork or get ahead, it’s not a bad place where you can mix business and pleasure. Clearwater beach is one of Florida’s hot spots and despite the fact that it’s a bit of a drive – 45minutes to an hour; it is definitely a perfect change of scenery and a great place to hang out with friends. Your not limited to the beach either, there is a pier with numerous restaurants and shops to explore too. The only cost that comes with this would be gas and food if you were planning to eat there, but if you’re going with a group, having everyone pitch in for gas would make this almost cost-free.

Staying in touch with water, Florida is one of the places that has been blessed with an abundance of freshwater springs. If you’re feeling rather in tune with nature and wanting to see some beautiful scenery, Crystal Springs Preserve may be a destination to visit. Crystal Springs preserve is a 525 acre are dedicated to helping preserve the natural environment and education visitors about Florida’s natural resources and being environmentally conscious. The preserve is not too far from campus definitely within a half hour drive, and the cost to be able to go see the springs and the restorative effort will cost about $25. This will not only be an intellectually enriching experience, but it also allows you to really appreciate the natural environment that Florida has to offer, and not to mention the perfect photo opportunities. If you enjoy your time there, you can also inquire about further internship and volunteer opportunities that not only allow you to do your part for the environment but also allows you to gain experience in the field.

For those sports fans, the Tampa Bay forum will be hosting numerous sporting events during break. Opportunities to see the Tampa Bay Lightening hockey games start from as little $11.00. Tickets can be purchased from ticket master and stub hub.com.If you are a music enthusiast and a fan of Miley Cyrus, her “Bangerz” tour has a show booked in Tampa at the forum on the 20th of March. The tickets are more expensive starting at $54.

Other things to do locally within a closer proximity include Dade City’s Wild  ,The Giraffe ranch, and, The Pioneer Florida Museum and Village. Although Dade City. With amazing reviews The Giraffe Ranch is the perfect experience to interact with Giraffe’s. There are guided Safari tours, interaction sessions and feeding opportunities. There are two tours per day and prices start just under $70. If the price is a little high just to see Giraffes, then Dade City’s Wild Things would be a better option with prices starting under $40, but you have the opportunity to see a larger and more diverse set of species.

If you are willing to stretch your budget a little, The Florida Aquarium Zoo , Mosi and Busch Gardens are all good spots to check out .  They are definitely places filled with things to do that can keep you busy for an entire day.

If you need more excitement and are willing to put in the drive and money, Orlando is not a bad place to visit either. Not as expensive or as far to get to in comparison to Miami or Panama, but it definitely has a huge variety of things to do. One of the highlights of Universal Resort around this time of year is Mardi Gras, if you missed the CAB trip to Universal then there is still an opportunity for you to see the festivities and singers that will be taking to the stage. The Mardi Gras celebrations will be taking place up till the 31st of May, and the line up of performances this year include Robin Thicke, Kelly Rowland, A Great Big World , Nelly and The Wanted.  Around the Orlando area there of course other places to visit including Medieval Times, Arabian Nights, Sea World and any of the Disney Parks. Many of these theme parks and attractions either offer student discounts or Florida resident discounts which can always be beneficial.

Spring Break is slowly creeping up and it can be easy to forget that it doesn’t have to be a bore. Whether your spending it with family or friends, the main things are to keep safe and enjoy some time before finals creep up faster.
