On Wednesday Feb. 6 the results of the most recent Student Government Union Executive Board rolled in. Some greeted with shock and awe, while others’ expectations were metered with the drive of their campaign.

The incumbent members of the new Executive Board include President Celine-Deon, Vice President of Communications Management Geshon Pratt , Vice President of Finance Ryan Roper, Vice President of Operations Giulia Gourgue and Vice President of Activities Marquise McGill.

The functions of the positions are as follows:

  • President- Oversees Student Government Union and all functions and responsibilities of SGU
  • Vice President of Operations- Oversees Senate and Leadership Conferences
  • Vice President of Activities- Oversees CAB (Campus Activities Board) and plans events for SGU
  • Vice President of Finance- Handles SGU budget and allocations for SGU recognized clubs
  • Vice President of Communication Management- Oversees SGU social media platforms, records minutes at all SGU meetings (SGU, Senate, Appropriations, etc.), and oversees President’s Council

Marquise McGill who ran unopposed was thankful for the support of those that voted for him, promising to continue to put the student first and build a more efficient, fun and activity based platform on campus.

Each candidate ran on the platform of bringing change and a deeper sense of community to University Campus while bolstering school spirit.

McGill when asked why he wanted the position of Vice President of Activities stated, “I wanted to fill University Campus with more activities for the students, allowing them to grow closer together.”

McGill’s first action in office is becoming a part of a program that will be able to safely document volunteer hours for students.

Likewise newly elected President Celine-Deon Palmer. Prior to the election Palmer was asked why she wanted the position of President to which she said, “I genuinely love and care about this institution. Ever since arriving here, Saint Leo has become my home away from home, I have served it in multiple capacities and believe that it is destined for more.

Palmer continued, “I am prepared to work to make this school a place our student population love and believe in, not only while I am here but long after I am gone. I believe that I am the right person for the post. I can lead the upcoming executive board into a year of dedication and service where I will see to it that previously started projects will be brought to life.”

I plan to also inspire initiative for new ways to show the student body that we are here to support their college career, which encompasses not only academic success but opportunities in all areas of their time here,” said Palmer.

The new Executive Board of the Student Government Union stands on what seems to be the precipice of change, as many new additions are planned for the University including Main Campus.
