Name: Jessica Weaver
Major: Marketing
Class standing: Junior
SGU position you applied for: Vice President of Activities
What experience do you have which makes you qualified for the position you’re running for and a better choice than your opponent(s)?
I have been involved with the Campus Activities Board since my sophomore year here at Saint Leo. I started as a committee member for Traditions Committee and currently am part of the CAB executive board as the Traditional Programming Assistant. These experiences have allowed me to gain a leg-up for this position because I can relate to both the committee and executive board members in order to push them to be as successful as they can be.
Why do you want this position and what/who inspired or motivated you to run?
I would like to have to opportunity to be the next Vice President of Activities in order to continue Bringing Bigger and Better Events to You, the student body. This position requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills which I have been enhancing through my various involvements with CAB. I was inspired to run for this position by the last two Vice Presidents of Activities, Joe and Mo. I have seen how strong of leaders they are and how successful their CAB executive boards have been the past few years. Therefore, I would work hard to keep up the same level of expectation they have set.
What do you hope to accomplish and how do you plan to accomplish these goals in your position?
In my campaign slogan, I say that I want to bring “Bigger and Better Events For You!” This position, as well as any position on SGU, ultimately serves the student body. I would like to implement the use of surveys or a suggestion box outside of the CAB office to hear what the student’s want activities wise both on and off campus. This is because at the end of the day if the students aren’t happy, then we are doing something wrong. I hope, if elected, to also push my CAB executive board to be innovative and bring new and exciting events to campus. This current year we have been successful in doing this; so I would like to keep this trend going into the next year.
What would your first action in office be, if you are elected?
If elected, my first action would be to thank the student body and then ask what types of events they want to see during the next school year. I would accomplish this by having an email sent out to each student asking them to answer a few quick questions about different types of events and give them the opportunity to share their own ideas. I will also make a suggestion and survey box available on the CAB office door for students to also drop in their ideas.
