Dave Oliphant’s Visit to Saint Leo University

He describes himself as a “Jack of all trades,” working at the University of Texas for 30 years before retiring. Others describe him as a “prolific writer and wonderful person.” Indeed, one may argue that Dave Oliphant has an impressive repertoire. Mr. Oliphant has been a poet, translator, publisher and teacher.

Pump it up WSLU

The Saint Leo Radio, WSLU, is going on two and a half years of air time, but most of that air time has been spent on the web. Shows include: Tolken Power Hour, The Asylum, Saint Leo Sports, The Appetizer, The Warehouse, The Breakdown, The Wasteland, BOSS Radio, and The Waterpipe. Radio personalities include: Tolken, Chris, Christina, J-Rod, Justin, Joe, Brittany, Britton, DJ Inferno and DJ Mars.

Controversial Amendment 4 fails to pass with voters

On Tuesday, November 2, Florida voters went to the polls and defeated the much-debated Florida Comprehensive Land Use Plan known as Amendment 4. The ballot measure, which required a 60 percent majority to pass, has been the subject of much controversy for the past few years.

Alaskan college in need of Saint Leo’s help

Back in 2007, Sheldon Jackson College, located in Sitka, Alaska, was shut down due to low enrollment and lack of funding. Since that time, John Peterson, science professor at Saint Leo since 2001, intends to take a group of students from Saint Leo to help volunteer and revitalize the once prestigious college.

On September 22, Tyler Clementi jumped off the George Washington Bridge and ended his life, following his roommate’s unauthorized broadcast of Clementi’s sexual encounter with another man. In doing so, Tyler Clementi became another victim in a tragedy as old as time.
