The New Year festivities have ended and now we are all back to our daily tasks in the real world. People are going back to work and students are going back to class, but we all have one thing in common: the anticipation of what this new decade is going to bring us.

Trends appear and disappear constantly, and it’s very amusing to look back at the past and reminisce on certain parts of the decade. For example, which social media platforms were popular, funny memes, or different song genres that were in style back then.

Tik Tok is a huge topic that comes to mind when talking about trends. The app has become an enormous hit more recently. However, most students do not think it will follow us into the years to come.

“I think Tik Tok will go out in 2020 because people tend to repeat the same dance moves and it will eventually get boring for viewers,” said Kristina Sinibaldi, a sophomore elementary education major.

The app came out in 2017; however, it became trendy within the last couple of years when it ranked number one among other free mobile apps. People can create their own videos to post, or they can scroll through their feed to watch other’s creativity, but either way, it is a trend that most enjoyed using.

Another trend that may disappear in 2020 is the “VSCO girl” phase. Selena Giordano, Social Work senior, feels this will be yet another phase just like when “Tumblr girls” were a thing. The term “VSCO girl” comes from the fashion side of social media. These specific posts can make a young girl look like a VSCO girl.

So, what are some trends that will appear in 2020? Some students felt that flare jeans are going to make a comeback. The jeans were fashionable in the ’60s and might make a reappearance in future female fashion. This trendy style was in all of the stores back in the day, and now we will be shopping online for these same outfits.

Other people thought about food trends and what restaurants will become popular in 2020.

“I think Ruby Tuesday will make a comeback. People have been sleeping on it for years, but I believe that this year it will make a return,” said Jeremy Moser, criminal justice major.

Many trends will start and end in 2020, but wherever life takes us, we can always use these trends to make good memories with friends and family.
