New York Fashion Week 2024 was hosted from Feb. 9 to 14. Lots of people, including influencers and celebrities, were invited to go to New York City just for this event. It is pure entertainment and so exciting, especially for fashion lovers. Let us chat about this year’s New York Fashion Week and all the top looks and new trends!
Why is New York Fashion Week such a big deal? NY Fashion Week showcases the latest collections from famous designers and shows beautiful talents and art that attract fashion buyers.
As the models walk down the runway, they are showing off other people’s art and passions through their clothes, shoes, headpieces, and little details in jewelry and accessories. This brings in tons of tourists to New York as well and boosts the economy.
New York Fashion Week is significant in today’s culture because of its huge global influence in the fashion industry. People can watch this event all over the world and be inspired to wear similar items and start some new trends. It is also common for social media influencers to attend and post about it and share the new looks.
Professor Jennifer Harman, professor of language studies and arts at Saint Leo University gave her opinion on NY Fashion Week.
“It’s basically like the Super Bowl or the Olympics of fashion, where designers get to show the world their best work. What I also like about NYFW is that it brings a multicultural presence to the stage, which gives us some interesting pieces to admire, but also exposes the designers to a significantly larger audience,” said Harman.
Speaking of new fashion trends and styles, let us investigate them from this year! Fashion Tiktoker and street style photographer, Karya Schanilec, touched on the top new trends from NY Fashion Week.
Schanilec stated furry shoes, and fur additions to outfits like vests, collars, and hats are a fashion trend now! The next new trend is bonnets, which is crazy considering they have been around forever!
Also, a new trend is swing silhouettes. These are long sleeve sweater jackets with buttons, but they are loose and open and look very elegant.
Lily Glasgow, a freshman majoring in nursing at Saint Leo University, says “I am loving the colors! I feel like 2023 trends focused a lot on neutrals, so I am glad to see bright colors being featured in 2024 style.”
There are way too many to count but more trends that were seen include, over the shoulder sweaters, leather gloves, boots but loose and slouchy, trench coats, and wearing monochromatic outfits, such as wearing all white.
New York Fashion Week is an experience, and an event millions of people look forward to. It is influential in the fashion world and gets designers pieces out into the world, lets models live their dreams, and inspires people who want to do the same, whether it is fashion design or modeling.
