This upcoming Thanksgiving break is ecstatically anticipated as the semester is coming to an end. The week-long pause not only serves as a breather before final exams, but it also allows many students to connect with family members who are not seen on a regular basis.

Each year, students usually celebrate the Thanksgiving break differently. Most students are afforded the opportunity to travel and celebrate this family-oriented holiday with loved ones while there are others who accompany friends to their homes due to proximity. On the other hand, some students think it is better to save money as the month-long Christmas break succeeds two weeks after, and others who find the Thanksgiving break to be a distraction from upcoming projects and finals.

For students who choose to remain on campus, the faculty and organizations here at Saint Leo do a remarkably impressive job at catering to students and making them feel comfortable throughout this holiday break. During this time, students are ensured a week of activities organized by the Multicultural and International Services Office (MISO) along with Student Activities.

Starting Monday, there is a trip to Walmart. Students will be able to stock up on necessities as the dining hall will be closed Nov. 17-24, but will be opened Nov. 25 for dinner.

On Tuesday, there will be a van trip to the Tampa Premium Outlets, and Wednesday there will be a trip to Busch Gardens free of charge.

Tickets and explanations for each trip will be available on saintleotickets.com.

Thursday will be the last day of activities. According to an email sent to the student body, there will be a free Thanksgiving meal hosted by the Benedictine Sisters and Saint Anthony of Padua Parish for all students staying on-campus.

These events are also listed on the life-sized calendars located all-around campus and sent in an email to students.

Altogether, this is just another way that the University caters to its students outside of their academic needs. Freshman and international students, in particular, do not need to fret as these activities are provided so that students can enjoy their time outside of their rooms during the Thanksgiving break.

For students who wish to partake on Thanksgiving Day, a reservation for dinner must be made by 1 p.m. Nov. 16, and if students need transportation to the dinner, they must contact Campus Safety and Security at (352)-588-8432.
