When living in San Antonio, Florida, it can be hard to find something good to eat that isn’t just burgers and pizza. Located in Downtown Dade City, Steph’s is a restaurant that serves the best soul food ever created.

Steph’s is set up like a buffet, but the staff dishes you out. There are five options of how to eat. The first option is called Herold’s Plate. With this plate, you have the option of one and a half meats, two sides and either a roll or cornbread for $10.99. The second option is called HJ’s plate in which you can have one meat, two sides and a piece of bread. Moe’s plate gives you chicken, beans, rice and a piece of bread. Lastly, you can get Steph’s plate which consists of four sides and a piece of bread. For the kids, there is a plate that comes with one meat, a side and a piece of bread for $5.99.

There are many types of meat to choose from at Steph’s. She serves shrimp, grilled and fried chicken, meatloaf, ribs, beef tips, pork chop, fish and oxtail. Chicken pot pie and chicken and dumplings can also count as a meat. Unlike chicken pot pie, chicken and dumplings can be considered a meat or a side.

Steph’s also has a wide variety of sides as well. Since I decided to get the Steph’s plate (the four sides and bread), I picked chicken and dumplings, southern style green beans, mashed potatoes and broccoli rice casserole. The bread options are a roll or cornbread, so I decided to pick the roll and my friend got the cornbread. The roll was nice and sweet and tasted amazing with butter, but my friend said the cornbread was also very good.

All desserts are under five dollars and extremely tasty. There are over five different types of cake, multiple types of pie and strawberry shortcake. I had the red velvet cake, and it just melted in your mouth. My friend had the strawberry shortcake, and it was served in a tall milkshake glass. The glass was full of shortcake pieces and covered in strawberries and strawberry juices; he said it was absolutely amazing and tasted so fresh.

Overall, Steph’s is one of the best hole-in-the-wall restaurants I have ever been to. Steph is usually at the restaurant as well, and she is the sweetest woman.

I completely recommend Steph’s Southern Soul Restaurant to anyone living in Dade City or San Antonio looking for an amazing home-cooked meal.
