The month of October is all about being spooky. However, nothing says “Halloween” quite like candy! The Lions’ Pride Media Group was curious as to what Halloween candy students liked the most—so, they went around campus and asked!
The five Halloween candies being ranked are Reese’s Pumpkins, for all the peanut butter chocolate lovers out there; candy corn, for those who can’t help but be a little corny; Sour Patch Kids, for those who like the punch of sour; Laffy Taffy, for those who love a good laugh; and, lastly, Hershey’s Milk Chocolate, as a gluten-free option.
The rankings will be going from least to most liked, for a little bit of added suspense and trickery!
Coming in dead last is candy corn. Unfortunately, none of the students interviewed particularly favored the brightly colored treat. Lizbeth Diaz, a junior double majoring in psychology and data science, made sure to weigh in.
“Candy corn is just not for me. The idea was there, but just no,” said Diaz.
The #4 spot goes to Laffy Taffy. It seems like no one is in the “laffying” mood this Halloween season, with only one student preferring it over the other options. Adrianna Astudillo, a sophomore majoring in English, likes this chewy treat.
“Laffy Taffy is my favorite candy, whether it is Halloween or summertime, they will always be the best,” said Astudillo.
Coming in with the bronze medal is Sour Patch Kids. First, they are sweet, but they pack a sour punch. Matthew Yesair, a junior majoring in homeland security, raves about these candies.
“I am not a big candy guy, but I do enjoy Sour Patch Kids,” he said. “For me, sour candies are just so much better than chocolate candies.”
Someone queue up for a drum roll please; it is time to crown our top two finishers! Our silver medalist, sliding into second place, is the classic Hershey’s Milk Chocolate candy bar. Earning the gold medal is none other than Reese’s Pumpkins, which all students agreed that they enjoyed eating.
To conclude, Halloween is all about the costume and the decorations, but it’s true that the candy is really everyone’s favorite part. Whether you are going out trick-or-treating or staying in studying for midterms, have a happy Halloween and stay safe. Be sure to try out some of these candies!
