Every year around mid-September, students flock to their college campuses clutching pumpkin spice lattes in one hand and apple cinnamon candles in the other. The especially eager students might pull out their favorite cozy sweaters and shout from the top of Kirk Hall: “Fall is here!”

In bright, sunny Florida, autumn looks a little different than in other parts of the country. There are no tri-toned leaves littering the sidewalks of Saint Leo University, just beautiful palm trees and gentle oaks. However, that doesn’t mean that students can’t enjoy the fall season.

There are many ways to anticipate the arrival of autumn without considering the weather: spooky Netflix shows, haunting mystery novels, spine-chilling movies and exciting fall festivals! Here’s what students should expect this upcoming fall season.

On October 18, #1 New York Times bestselling author Jodi Picoult will be releasing her new novel entitled Mad Honey with the help of author Jennifer Finney Boylan. This suspenseful book will have students curled up in their dorm room, enchanted by a story of secrecy, murder, and love. This book can be purchased on Amazon for under $25 and is perfect for fall.

“Mad Honey” can be described as enticing, enchanting, and perfect for the season.

For students who are avid fans of the supernatural Addams Family, Netflix is unveiling something spectacular this fall—according to Popbuzz.com, a fresh take on the spooky family will be released in November 2022. It’s called Wednesday and extremely popular director Tim Burton will be breathing new life into the iconic character of Wednesday Addams.

Netflix’s “Wednesday” will follow the iconic character through her teenage years.

Additionally, director David Gordon Green’s Halloween Ends will be premiering in theaters on October 14. This is the final movie in the Michael Myers universe and is sure to give students a fright right before Halloween! The Zephyrhills Cinema 10 and The Grove 16 in Wesley Chapel are both movie theaters less than 25 minutes away from University Campus.

Get ready to get scared! “Halloween Ends” is the epic end to an amazing horror movie series.

Lastly, on October 1, Sacred Heart Catholic Church will be holding its annual St. Joe Fall Festival from 9am-3pm. This event is open to all and is located just three miles away from University Campus. There will be live music, food vendors, a pumpkin patch, craft vendors, and more! Both admission and parking are free.

The St. Joe Fall Festival is easily accessible to Saint Leo students and will be a great time.

In conclusion, there are many ways students can celebrate the coming of the fall season. Through an enchanting myriad of books, movies, television shows, and festivals, students of Saint Leo can enjoy autumn even if the weather is still bright and sunny.
