Fall is the most gorgeous and picturesque time of year. Nature changes her colors, and we increasingly want warmth and comfort. We dream of evenings with our friends and a cozy environment. This is the perfect time to create a fall atmosphere in your room or dorm with the appropriate decor.

“When I am thinking about the fall, the first thing that comes to my mind is falling leaves. I associate this season with yellow and brown colors,” said Abigail Picot, a sophomore majoring in business management.

Living in Florida, it is hard to experience this time of the year truly. However, nobody says you cannot create the fall mood by yourself! And decorating your room or dorm can help you!

“I decorate my room for fall with Halloween stuff because I think it is fun! It is getting cool down in Florida, so my friends and I usually stay indoors watching movies, and decoration creates the mood, especially orange lights, and warm blankets,” said Andres Cubillos, a sophomore studying criminal justice.

Room décor ideas:

  • Get flower arrangements- they can be made of dried/fake flowers in fall colors: yellow, brown, and red to add bright colors to your room.
  • Put warm-colored lights around your room or a leaf garland.
  • To make your room more comfortable, buy colorful blankets and pillows.
  • Hang posters/pictures with fall topics on the walls.

Halloween’s decoration ideas:

  • Paper lanterns
  • You can put fake insects and spiders all around the room.
  • Use banners with clever messages like “I put a spell on you.”
  • Get a skeleton or just scull and put it on a desk, dresser, or TV stand. If your skeleton is giant, hang it from your roof.

Even with a student budget, it is possible to decorate your room. Walmart has a whole section with very cheap decorations for every taste. There are also other stores, such as Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Dollar Tree, and Five Below, where there are a lot of sales and cheap decorations. And don’t forget that there is always the creative way – DIY!

DIY ideas to decorate your room:

  • The most fun activity during the fall season is pumpkin carving. Make a cute, scary, or funny face for your pumpkin!
  • Use paper to make a leaf garland/wreath or seasonal applique. Making spooky Halloween paper garlands would be interesting for Halloween decorations.
  • You can always paint your own picture if you are a great painter. Abstract art is always an option for those not as good at painting!
  • Use cheesecloth and googly eyes to make a ghost! For the base, you can use anything of your choice: a wooden stick holder, a cup, or a bottle, and your ghost is ready.

When you finish decorating, it’s time to get a cup of delicious cocoa and look around. Enjoy the beauty you made and imagine how wonderful this fall will be!
