As the typical college student turns their morning alarm clock to sleep, they feel rather sluggish from yesterday’s daily school and life demands. They need something to mentally awaken them for another day of college studies and life in general.

A pleasant and fragrant refuge has established itself in the center of Saint Leo University’s magnificent campus as a mainstay of campus life. Why not head on down to Benedict’s Coffeehouse?

Benedict’s Coffeehouse (also called “Benny’s” by many students) is an exquisite addition to the Lions’ campus. It was established and had its grand opening at the beginning of 2020, on Jan. 13.

Benedict’s Coffeehouse’s history began in the early 20th century. Saint Leo, founded in 1889, has a long history steeped in the Benedictine tradition.

The university’s monks, who have significantly contributed to forming its culture, saw a coffeehouse’s potential as a setting for friendship, education, and spiritual reflection.

Moreover, this boastful stimulant can solve many of our problems, creating a gateway to more energy, alertness, and ultimately, in the long run, more or less success. A modest beverage has silently become the lifeblood of innumerable students in the revered halls of academia, where knowledge reigns supreme.

Many students buy Benedict’s daily for better concentration, which ultimately assists them in getting their studies done, further advancing their academic progress.

The role of coffee in college life goes beyond the classroom. It has also served as a spark for developing connections, maintaining bonds, and making memories. While Benedict’s is an excellent place to focus and study, which Janiah Dunlap, a sophomore majoring in biology, can agree with, other students use it for relaxation.

“I enjoy coming to Benedict’s because of the relaxed atmosphere, and the coffee helps with my concentration so that I can get my work done,” said Ashlie Myre, a freshman majoring in biology. “My favorite drink is the iced chai with oat milk.”

Coffee shops can unite people over a shared beverage love, turning strangers into friends. Coffee can be viewed by many as simply a gift for starting the day.

On the way to an 8 a.m. class on a Monday morning, it is easier to gain a sense of motivation to last throughout the day when you treat yourself to your favorite latte. Perhaps studying with friends in the evenings at Benny’s could also be your go-to.

“I just enjoy sipping coffee with my college gang,” said Angie Camaione, a sophomore majoring in psychology.

So, as you proceed through college, remember that a cup of coffee—the silent partner in your quest for knowledge and the pulse of campus life—lies behind every late-night study session, intriguing conversation, and sleep-deprived essay.
