The 65th annual Grammy Awards took place on Feb. 5, 2023. The night was filled with music superstars from many different generations. It showed off popular and new artists while simultaneously giving older singers their roses.

Veteran artist Beyonce won the Grammy for the best dance/electronic album with her LP Renaissance. The night was a special one for her because it was her 32 Grammy win, which is the most ever. She was nominated 28 times this year and took home the most Grammy’s in the night with a total of four.

Beyonce is a megastar around the world and has some diehard fans across the Saint Leo campus. Maura Williams, a senior studying business management, is a huge Beyonce fan.

“Beyonce deserves the awards,” Williams said. “She has worked hard to lead music from this generation into the next.”

In typical fashion with award shows, the Grammy’s didn’t finish without controversy. This year’s controversy surrounded the ‘album of the year’ category. Harry Styles’s latest album Harry’s House beat out many albums, including Renaissance for the award.

Styles received three Grammys by the end of the night. Some fans in the audience were outraged with the results and heckled Styles when he was giving his acceptance speech. One person even yelled at Harry to “get off the stage.”

When asked her opinion on the controversy, Williams said: “Harry’s win was more than controversial. Some people might chop up his win to his race or the type of music that he makes.”

Although the Grammys had a controversial ending, it should not take anything away from the show. The night was a celebration for music no matter the opinions of the fans watching.
