Name: Quiwanaki Ramsey

Major: Political Science

Class standing: Freshmen

SGU position you applied for: Vice President of Operations

What experience do you have which makes you qualified for the position you’re running for and a better choice than your opponent(s)?

I participant in a program called Florida YMCA Youth in Government, serving as a Senator, Director of Legislative Affairs, and currently as a graduate advisor. This program has strengthened my knowledge of parliamentary procedure, which is needed for running the SGU Senate, a key role of the VPO. Not only am I skilled in procedure, but I am also a current SGU Senator. Within Senate, I am the Chairman of Judiciary committee and a member of the Standing rules committee. Serving on these committees has shown me the inner workings of our SGU Constitution and by-laws. I also have the pleasure of being an Honorary Councilman for the City of Jacksonville Florida (my hometown).

Why do you want this position and what/who inspired or motivated you to run?

Ever since I stepped on this campus, I knew I wanted to get involved, so that is what I did. I set out to be a senator, to get my name out and hopefully change the school for the better. After a tough Senate campaign, I found mentors and others that hold me to a higher standard. My motivation for running this campaign came from fellow classmates and role models such as Mikael Coleman, Selena Giordano, Cassidy Whitaker, and Derick McIntosh. All hold a special characteristic that I believe are qualities to look up to; Leadership, Social Responsibility, Integrity, Candor, Humbleness, and Intelligence.

What do you hope to accomplish and how do you plan to accomplish these goals in your position?

After talking with current Senators and many conversations with Edson O’Neale the SGU advisor, I understand how far the Senate has come. I plan to take the reigns and continue the growth and maturity that the Senate has to offer. I want to take it to the next level to become a model for other institutions to follow. By working with current and future Senators I know 100% of my goals can be exceeded.

What would your first action in office be, if you are elected?

If elected, my first action would to ensure the retention of current Senators and hold the election of future Senators.
