Many that grew up with the Harry Potter series have loved, or grown to love the fearless threesome of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Many remember Harry’s first year at Hogwarts, and his very first encounters with “He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named,” otherwise known as Lord Voldemort. Those that have grown up with Harry Potter understand why the last and final installment of the Harry Potter series brings sad emotion to many beloved fans.
The end of the year 2010 brings the first part of the seventh and final installment of the Harry Potter films. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 debuted at midnight on November 19th 2010. From the midnight showings alone, the movie made over $24 million, with a total of $125 million on opening weekend (Warner Brothers). Making Harry Potter the most anticipated film of the season. Numerous Harry Potter fans purchased their movie tickets weeks in advanced to guarantee a seat.
On Monday, November 15, 2010, Tampa’s local radio station 93.3FLZ hosted a premier showing of the Harry Potter film at AMC theaters. Many Harry Potter fans showed up to the event two hours early just to wait in line.
Almost ten years later since the release of the first film, the series is coming to an end. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 embarks on one of the best story lines of the series. Actors Daniel Radcliff, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson return and do an amazing job portraying the characters of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger.
With Dumbledore dead, Lord Voldemort and his followers, the Death Eaters, have taken over the wizarding world. Harry Potter takes it upon himself to finish what Dumbledore had started, by destroying all of Voldemort’s horcruxes. Harry has no idea how to find the Horcruxes, let alone destroy them. Of course, Ron and Hermione take the journey with him. This film represents an intense game of hide and seek, but with spells, danger, and death eaters.
For the first time in the film series history, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizadry is missing. None of the film is shot in the famous halls, or classrooms of Hogwarts. Even though Hogwarts is not the main stage for the film, the search for the Horcruxes take Harry, Ron, and Hermione to many breath taking locations.
This film has a lot of action packed scenes and suspense. With the death eaters taking over the Wizarding World, there is an eerie and dark presence throughout the entire movie. For those who have read the book, director David Yates was practically 100% accurate with his story line. Of course there were parts left out that would have made for amazing scenes in the movie; David Yates does a fantastic job making the Deathly Hallows film the most accurate to book compared to others.
Muggles all around the world would agree the film takes viewers through an emotional rollercoaster leaving many tearyeyed, scared, smiling and laughing. It is a great representation of J.K. Rowling’s greatest work. Part 1 brings many emotions to Harry Potter fans because it is the end of the Harry Potter series. But, Part 1 of the Deathly Hallows will leave one speechless and ready to see Part 2. Unfortunately, that means movie goers and Harry Potter fans will have to wait until July, 2011 to see Part 2, the last and final Harry Potter film.
