Pink Party

The month of October is used to promote Breast Cancer Awareness. This cancer affects both women and men. Sadly, every one out of eight women will be diagnosed, and less than 1% of men will be diagnosed.

Treatments can help but not in all situations. With earlier detection, survival rates increase and battling this cancer can become more efficient.

This past Thursday, the sisters of Sigma Lambda Gamma hosted a social event in support of Breast Cancer Awareness called the Pink Party. The entire Greek community came together to show support.

This event was co-hosted by Alpha Sigma Tau, Sigma Sigma Sigma, and Theta Phi Alpha.

During the event, members donated a dollar and received a raffle ticket to win a $25 gift card to Chili’s.

The room was completely decorated in pink and white with stringers and balloons everywhere.

After a light snacking, everyone watched a brief video displaying photos of family members from photos sent in by Sorority members, as well as others to show how many women suffer and to promote further research into the expansion of Breast Cancer.

This event really showed how close of a community Saint Leo is, especially in the Greek world, with tons of Sorority and some Fraternity members coming to support such a devastating cause.

“I speak for my colony when I say we are looking forward to doing more collaborative work with other Greek and non- Greek organizations.” said the event chair of Sigma Lambda Gamma.

With music playing, everyone began laughing and sharing stories. It was a way to give back to the community and show that when people come together anything is possible.

Following this event, the Saint Leo University sorority of Sigma Lambda Gamma will also be hosting “Breast Cancer Awareness 101”, an educational on the facts of breast cancer on Oct. 29.
