“Little Big Planet” has been an exclusive marketed game series for the PlayStation and its newest game to the series is “Little Big Planet 3.” With developing company, Media Molecule, assisting and giving Sumo Digital full development control, the game looks promising to fans of these games.
The story of this game takes place on a new planet called Bunkum. When Sack Boy accidently releases three evil titans on Bunkum, it is up to him and his new friends, Toggle, Swoop, and Oddsock to stop them before they destroy everything. A big change in the story mode is that now there are fully voice acted cut scenes and gameplay, giving the game a theatrical look as the story continues through each level.
The new characters are the new stand outs as they each have their own personal mechanic to help the player. Toggle has two different sizes, when he is larger he is able to weigh down platforms and when he is miniature as Little Toggle he can walk quickly on water and fit into small spaces. Swoop is a bird like sack character who can fly around the level. Finally there is Oddsock who can run fast and wall jump. With each character having their specific traits, it makes them unique to the game itself.
“Little Big Planet 3” also gives players new power-ups that, when equipped, give off additional abilities. Some power-ups can move light objects where as others can gave the character some new tools, like a flaming sword or an electrified fly swatter. These items can be produced by the option called the “Blaster Handle.”
Though the plot in the game isn’t very diverse, it’s the gaming community that make these games golden. The level creator option makes the games more immersive as players and create or play created levels for hours of fun. With this being a popular mode in past Little Big Planet games, it isn’t a surprise that it is in the third game as well. New DLC packs will also be coming out with new costumes, stickers, and level creating items. Some of the costumes have themes from other games like “Dragon Age Inquisition,” and “Metal Gear Solid.”
Though the game seems to have a good handle on being everything the fans want, it still has a few problems. On release, many have complained of bugs making players fall through floors of levels, frame rate stuttering, and all together the game crashing multiple times. Another issue is that the co-op in the game feels as if it is limited to the curiosity of the player as it doesn’t expand and have more creative possibilities as previous Little Big Planet games.
With this game having all of these new installments into the next game of the franchise it is no wonder why a lot of fans are excited for the release. This game gets a 4.0/5.
