Far Cry 4: The Himalayan’s Never Looked So Good

2012’s “Far Cry 3” was a big hit as its world was immersive and the villain and story were phenomenal. Ubisoft’s newest addition to the Far Cry series, “Far Cry 4” does the same as the last. It has memorable characters and a great environment where players will spend hours trying to find the secrets hidden within it.

The story is viewed from the eyes of Ajay Ghale (James Woods), who is the son of the Kyrat freedom fighters, called “Golden Path,” that live in Nepal. When his mother dies, out of respect Ajay travels to Kyrat, a fictional region created for the game, to scatter his mother’s ashes across his birthplace. However, once he gets there he gets tangled up in the revolution between King Pagan Min (Troy Baker), the main antagonist, and “Golden Path.” It is time for the Ajay, to decide what side he wants to be on.

The gameplay is just like “Far Cry 3,” but that isn’t a bad thing as everything from the previous game was fantastic. Besides the human enemies, there are also wildlife enemies and allies as well. Elephants can be ridden by the player so they can stomp through enemy camps and kill many enemies before being shot down. Dangerous animals such as Tibetan wolves, snow leopards, and Asian rhinos are all throughout the world and can be a threat if provoked.

The environment in the world is beautiful, and most of it can be traversed by the player. With giant mountains, flowing rivers, and beautiful palaces and towns, this game shows how much love and work went into creating it.

Though Ajay can be a little dull and shallow at times during the game, it is Pagan Min who stands out from all the other fleshed out characters. His comedic dark humor makes him one of the funniest, but intimidating people in the game. Again looking back at “Far Cry 3,” one of the biggest aspects of the game was the antagonist Vaas Montenegro (Michael Mando), for his insanity and dark humor like Pagan Min.

The multiplayer option called “Far Cry Chronicles” also does an amazing job, stepping up from the slightly poor multiplayer in “Far Cry 3.” The multiplayer is 5v5 (5 players versus 5 players) set in vast open environments that help gives certain teams different advantages. One team is the Golden Path seen in game, and they use more ammunition weaponry such as guns, grenades, and more. The other team is the Rakshasa who use supernatural powers such as summoning tigers and bears, and becoming invisible, with their weapon being bows and arrows.

If there is an issue with the game, it is that even though Pagan Min has a very well developed character, there isn’t a lot of him in the game.

Other than that and a few bugs that happen here or there, this game is definitely another golden game in the library of goodness. I give this game a 4.5/5.
