Inspired by writers such as Edgar Allen Poe, Saint Leo University’s English Honors Society (Sigma Tau Delta) held their annual Halloween spooky reading. Students gathered around a table decorated with spooky skeletons, cobwebs, and pumpkins while enjoying baked goods and of course, candy!
The Talent showcase is a traditional Family Weekend event that happens every year. This time, the event happened on Oct. 21 and gathered several students to present their talents. Parents had the opportunity to watch different presentations held by solo students and artistic groups.
Verticchio proved her solid golf skills at her first college tournament playing for the Saint Leo Women’s Golf team, where she shot an impressive eight-under-par in three rounds at the DBU women’s classics in Denton, Texas in September. As a team, the Lions placed third in a strong field with 16 teams.

Diwali, otherwise known as the Festival of Lights, is a five-day-long celebration of good over evil and light over darkness. It is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains. This year, Diwali festivities ran from Monday, Oct. 24 to Friday, Oct. 28. However, Saint Leo University and the Indian Student Association held their Diwali event on Oct. 24.
Alternative R&B artist Steve Lacy came out with his newest album Gemini Rights in July of this year, but it’s still a staple in many listeners’ playlists. Gemini Rights deals with the duality of his personality and includes some of the biggest hits from last summer.
Saint Leo University first opened its doors to students in 1890 and was Florida’s first-ever Catholic institution. Because of its historic past, there are different stories about what could have occurred in the past hundred or so years… specifically, ghostly activity on campus and beyond.
October is nationally recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer forms in the cells of the breasts of both women and, rarely, men. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, one in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime. Next year, new breast cancer diagnoses are expected to number more than 200,000 for women and more than 2,000 for men.
Multiple campus organizations have planned events for students to get together and learn from valuable experiences to alleviate the stress of midterms. One of these groups is Saint Leo’s University Ministry. The Ministry leaders planned a multi-day off-campus retreat during which students journaled, learned from guest speakers, and participated in fun activities.
