On Feb. 21, five of the Lions’ swimmers captured the All-SSC titles at the Sunshine State Conference Championships.
Sophomore Daniel Bis took the first-place finish on the last day of the competition at the YMCA of Central Florida Aquatic Center. He was the only men’s swimmer that earned a spot on the First Team, according to SaintLeoLions.com.
The YMCA Aquatic Center is where the best male and female swimmers of the Conference spent four days with preliminaries in the morning and ending their days with the final heats in the evening.
Senior Evan Jacob, Senior Pawel Trenda, and Senior Matheus Assis were all selected for Second Team All-SSC.
The women’s swim team featured Natalia Garriock as the only woman from the team to receive all-conference recognition. Garriock was named First Team All-SSC.
Maftuna Tuhtasinova placed third in the women’s 200 backstroke and Nicole Weber finished second in the women’s 200 breaststroke. Tuhtasinova came in at a “B” cut time of 2:02.01 while Weber clocked in at “B” cut time as well of 2:15.43, according to SaintLeoLions.com.
The Saint Leo men’s and women’s swim teams both finished fifth in the team standings this year at the Sunshine State Conference Swimming Championships.
