The Saint Leo men’s tennis team stayed No. 1 for the season after their final, regular- season match April 14. The Lions went from having perfect matches to now perfect seasons.
The Lions played Palm Beach Atlantic and beat them convincingly 8-1. The day was filled with great moments, especially for the graduating seniors: Francisco Aparicio, Jaime Bueno, James Defusto, Thomas Grinberg and Vincent Suillerot. Saint Leo won two of the three doubles matches from Grinberg and Suillerot 8-2. The other winning match was by Bueno and talented, freshman Willem Van Den Akker, 9-7.
Next, the Lions continued to their singles matches. Grinsberg won the match giving him a perfect personal record in the season winning 6-3 and 6-2. All this while Suillerot won his matches 6-2 and 6-3. Bueno also swept his opponent 6-4 and 6-0. The other matches consisted of junior Bruno Babic, Aparicio and Defusto, all of them recording wins to complete the sweep and gather the perfect season; Babic won 6-2, 6-2, Aparicio 6-4, 6-2 and Defusto 6-4, 6-2.
The Lions will travel to the 2018 Sunshine State Conference Championships in Bradenton, Florida for a tournament that starts April 19.
