The Saint Leo University women’s soccer team played the Palm Beach Atlantic team Wednesday, in a Sunshine State Conference match. The Lions racked up several fouls leading up to a made PBA penalty kick nearly 30 minutes into the game.

Shortly after, the Lions tied it up with a great effort on a diving header by Kelli Hippenmeyer. The first half came to a close with the score of one goal to one goal.

The second half tested the nerves of the Lions and fans in the stands as the Sailfish kept the ball in Lions’ territory for most of the first 15 minutes. The Lions did not buckle though, and with 20 minutes left in the game, Carolina Solis-Deleon scored the final goal of the game to put the Lions up two to one.

Notable performances include goalkeeper Julia Ortiz, who, despite making the penalty shot, kept the Sailfish at bay.

The game ended with a final score of two goals to one to bring the Lions’ conference record to 1-1, and their overall record to 2-4. The next game for the Lions will be on the road at Florida Southern Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.
