It is a tradition. Intramurals games are held generally every semester on campus. They are one of the activities on campus where people can meet each other, make new friends, and have good times with them.
With all that is going on with the coronavirus, many activities, including sports, have been paused on campus. However, all hope is not lost. Students will have the opportunity to participate in more intramurals this semester, but with only two games: beach volleyball and kickball.
Starting on Oct. 19, beach volleyball will be held on the beach volleyball courts at 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 7 p.m. every Monday night. Kickball will start on Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m., and 9:30 p.m., and will be held at the turf field every Wednesday night. Players will be able to group up in teams of two for beach volleyball and in teams of five for kickball.
Thierry Edouard, a sophomore student majoring in Business Management who participated last semester in the soccer games, said that intramurals are his favorite among all the activities on campus.
“I enjoyed playing in the intramurals,” Edouard said. “I teamed up with several guys that I did not know before, and we became friends since.”
Indeed, some students find common interests and sometimes become good friends after the games. This is one more occasion for students, especially freshmen, to make new friends on campus and mingle a little bit.
While some students prefer to be in the field, others prefer to watch and support their friends.
“I always have fun watching and playing the intramural games, and I cannot wait for them to start this semester,” said Emmers Occean, a senior student majoring in biology.
Occean participated last semester and is not sure if he wants to participate this semester. He has not found people to team up with yet, he said.
Registrations are already open, and to do so, students must go to the website www.imleagues.com to register and create or join a team. To stay in compliance with the precautionary measures against the coronavirus, it is required to wear a mask.
