The Talent showcase is a traditional Family Weekend event that happens every year. This time, the event happened on Oct. 21 and gathered several students to present their talents. Parents had the opportunity to watch different presentations held by solo students and artistic groups.

Athletes on Air:  Elena Verticchio – Women’s Golf

Verticchio proved her solid golf skills at her first college tournament playing for the Saint Leo Women’s Golf team, where she shot an impressive eight-under-par in three rounds at the DBU women’s classics in Denton, Texas in September. As a team, the Lions placed third in a strong field with 16 teams.

Light overcoming the dark: Saint Leo hosts Diwali celebrations

Diwali, otherwise known as the Festival of Lights, is a five-day-long celebration of good over evil and light over darkness. It is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains. This year, Diwali festivities ran from Monday, Oct. 24 to Friday, Oct. 28. However, Saint Leo University and the Indian Student Association held their Diwali event on Oct. 24.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month Acknowledged at Saint Leo University

October is nationally recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer forms in the cells of the breasts of both women and, rarely, men. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, one in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime. Next year, new breast cancer diagnoses are expected to number more than 200,000 for women and more than 2,000 for men.
