It’s that time of the year again to grab your textbooks and set your alarm clocks for fall semester!
It is a hard transition for students to get back into a routine of studying, having homework, and taking tests.
College summers can last from three to four months. In this time, students get used to working their summer jobs, being with family, reconnecting with hometown friends, or travelling.
While it is difficult to transition from summer break to school, Saint Leo University plays a role in making the transition into a new semester smooth and fun!
Saint Leo University makes the first week back to school fun with many events to lift the students’ spirits and get them back into the swing of things.
On the first day of classes, Saint Leo hosted an event bringing in therapy ponies for students to come by and pet on their way to class. They also had a photo background for students to get their back-to-school photos taken, just like they did since kindergarten.
Saint Leo University also hosted a back-to-school pool party, which students attended as they sunk in the last bits of summer.
Maddie Melendez, a senior majoring in Criminal Justice, said, “Welcome week events are a big help to transition back into the school year. These events allow us to adjust our mind and bodies from summer mode to school mode.”
The Campus Activities Board also hosted some activities for new and returning students on the first week back to campus. These events included making friendship bracelets, glow in the dark bingo, free smoothies, and a back-to-school skate bash! All exciting activities to start the fall semester off right!
The campus is filled with places and events that can help you get back into the new school year.
Besides events and activities, the faculty of Saint Leo were there, guiding the students to a successful first week of classes.
The student success coaches had walk ins from 8AM-4PM every day for students to come in and ask questions, fix their schedules, and seek advice on what classes they should be taking.
Student Success Coach, Dr. Audrea Maxwell, says “Once students are on campus, they are encouraged to become involved in different organizations that the campus offers. The diverse organizations and student clubs provide opportunities for students to develop new skills and interests, leading them to improved learning in the classroom.”
Meeting people or joining a club Saint Leo offers ensures a great semester. Saint Leo’s involvement fair, which was filled with tables of Greek Life, The Lions’ Pride Media Group, and Sports teams are some great ways for new students to jump into something they have an interest in and meet new people.
Saint Leo University does an excellent job with making the campus feel like a home.
Lions, go to events, join a club, make new friends, and have a wonderful semester!
