Graduating Advice: My Life at Saint Leo University

Saint Leo University has made me the person I am today. Since coming to Saint Leo was the first time I was living in the United States and on an institution, it meant there were a lot of adjustments I needed to make if I was going to manage life on campus.

One of the biggest ways Saint Leo has changed me is my social life. Before coming to Saint Leo, I rarely used social media. However, only a few weeks into my first semester, I started using Snapchat to stay in contact with friends.

Ever since I began using Snapchat, I felt more determined to make friends than at any point in my life.

Saint Leo has also given me my love for journalism. Before attending Saint Leo, I was determined to pursue a career as a creative writer with the end goal of becoming a published novelist. However, thanks to my job at The Lions’ Pride Media Group, I developed a passion for the art of journalism, which I wish to make my career goal after graduating.

I like journalism because it allows me to explore concepts that I wouldn’t normally think to analyze using creative writing methods like writing a poem or a story.

Saint Leo has made me feel more connected to the world in and out of the classroom. Due to Saint Leo’s location, it meant I got more opportunities to learn more about the history of the United States, such as from my Immigration: Face of America HTY110 course. I valued classes like this, because they helped me gain a better appreciation for the United States.

Outside of the classroom, I got to experience meeting people from all across the world, being a foreigner who is living in different country, traveling alone on a plane without any family or friends, and writing articles for The Lions’ Pride related to the United States and the world.

Now that my time at Saint Leo is almost over, I reflect on everything that I have learned which I plan to take with me to the Bahamas where I will begin my professional career as a journalist and eventually become a novelist.

My biggest takeaway from Saint Leo that I hope new students will learn is that no matter what challenges you face on campus, you must remember to put your education first so you don’t waste an opportunity not everyone can acquire.

Although my passion shall always be with creative writing, Saint Leo University has convinced me that I made the right choice by pursuing an English: Professional Writing major to add more variety to my resumé. (Photo provided by Lester Williams Jr.)

Something else I would like to state is that weight loss is not supposed to be about going on a celebrity diet and trying to get rid of as much weight as you can in a set period of time. The most effective way in losing weight is by taking it slowly and obeying some basic tips which can allow you to make the most from the attempt to shed weight. You may be aware and be following these tips, but reinforcing information never hurts.
