The government did a relatively good job with disaster relief in the wake of the 2017 Hurricane Season. Following Katrina, the government received many complaints, and it is good to see that these complaints led to positive reform.

In the United States of America, the government was actively involved with assisting the public with the most recent hurricanes in 2017. The government responded to several hurricanes; such as Irma, Harvey, and Maria. Theses hurricanes largely impacted the country and surrounding areas; and the government had to play a major role in mending the county. But, how did they do?
According to FEMA, on August 31st, 2017 more than 38,000 people found refuge within the state of Texas with the help of the Red Cross association. The Red Cross Association assisted with providing shelters, and some are still currently open serving to assist another 450 people.
Subsequently, FEMA reports explain how The United States Federal Coast Guard has assisted in providing 1,900,000 meals, 1,960,000 liters of water, 4,700 blankets, and more than 1,400 cots in the state of Florida.
The FDRC (The Federal Disaster Recovery Coordinator) was appointed in 2017 for recovery plans within several states of the U.S. The purpose of this was to aid communities who was damaged, to receive the necessary federal funding, and to establish goals for those who need to recover from the hurricane.
On September 1, 2017, FEMA continues to respond to Hurricane Harvey, by actively mobilizing the resources to support the states which include Louisiana and Texas.
There is approximately 21,000 Federal Staff that were deployed at this time to help the victims.
According to FEMA on September 15, 2017, there was a “Relief Program” for Hurricane Irma that continues to assist the public to obtain relief. In fact, President Donald J. Trump visited Florida to meet Governor Rick Scott in the wake of the storm to get information on the disaster survivors that were in the state.
Furthermore, there has been assistance for the state of Alabama, with the government supporting 7.2 million meals and more the 16.7 million liters of water. Similarly, Florida was provided with more than 835,000 meals, 583,000 liters of water and 121 generators that were given to provide people with power.
According to FEMA, Georgia survivors were given 721,000 meals and was supplied with 30 generators at that time. FEMA also saved 15 people from a collapsing bridge in the state. North Carolina was affected by Irma as well, and received 366,000 meals, 2.2 million liters of water, and 55 generators. South Carolina received 1.5 meals and 1.3 million liters of water from the government for Hurricane Irma.
On September 23, 2017, FEMA then had to begin to assist Puerto Rico with the disaster of Hurricane Irma. FEMA has assisted in helping the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico who were damaged by Hurricane Maria.
Additionally, there were millions of meals that were sent to Puerto Rico from Kentucky and Florida. The United States National Guard Bureau as well assisted to restore the military structure. The Federal Government have greatly impacted and assisted the citizens of United States of America and even several countries outside of the United States who were gravely harmed by the hurricane and needed some help at the time. It is very vital that we always stand together to assist one another, especially in grave times of need.
