In light of March being Brain Injury Awareness Month, Saint Leo University faculty encourages students to learn how to support athletes affected by a concussion. Follow along to learn more about this topic and what you can do to raise awareness this month.
On Monday, Feb. 20, the Vice President of Athletics at Saint Leo University, Fran Reidy, had the hard task of announcing that, in order to resolve financial problems, no less than 70 student-athletes and five coaches in their athletic programs would be cut for the next season.
Fans and supporters might have seen an athletic young woman representing the #1 on her jersey and giving her best on the lacrosse turf. This student-athlete is Reagan Buhrman from New Hampshire, a junior majoring in business management with minors in criminal justice and finance, who is not only an exceptional student but a talented lacrosse player.
Cierra White, now married and known as Cierra Munroe – or Coach Munroe to Saint Leo University’s cross country and track and field teams – is no stranger to an interview. The former track star may have been interviewed by ESPN, but has she been interviewed by The Lions’ Pride Media Group?
The last time different Saint Leo athletic teams came together at the University Turf Stadium was for the traditional “Welcome Back” event in 2021 to elect the “best” Lions team. But on Monday, Feb. 6, at 8 pm, the Lions met again and had a mental-health awareness discussion, mixing various fun and competitive games at the lacrosse turf.
The stage is set for Super Bowl 57. The run-heavy Philadelphia Eagles are squaring off against the high-flying offense of the Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 12 at 6:30 pm. The Eagles had no trouble getting to the Super Bowl this postseason as they blew their competition out of the water beating the New York Giants 38-7 and the San Francisco 49ers 31-7.
The Wellness Center kicked off with an open house event on Tuesday, Jan. 18, where trainers informed students about the various classes available in their building. Lions who attended were not only interested in learning about the various group and individual sessions offered by the instructors, but they were also interested in learning how to stay healthy as college students.
The beginning of a new year is a chance for new challenges and goals paired with motivation to be better than the year before. This mindset especially applies to the student-athletes at Saint Leo University, who accomplished great things last year and want to proceed to do that with their team this Spring semester. The athletic teams strive to be at the top throughout all NCAA Division II programs.
Students or staff at Saint Leo University might have spotted a pretty fast runner passing them while he was practicing on campus. Some might have thought it was Speedy Gonzales running past them – however, it was a motivated runner from France who is striving toward success.
Even though Pelé is not a physical part of this world anymore, his name and his accomplishments will be well remembered for a long time.
