Saint Leo University’s 3rd International Business Conference

Saint Leo held its 3rd International Business Conference (IBC) on Feb. 8-10 with the help of its main sponsors Pearson eCollege, the Conference Committee, the faculty and staff of the Donald R. Tapia School of Business, and the Saint Leo community. The focus of the IBC was on “Strategic Alliances for a Global Economy” featuring keynote speakers, Thomas Stewart from Booz and Company, and Dr. Jeff Borden from Pearson eCollege. The featured speaker was Dr. Josefa Ramoni from the Universidad de Los Andes in Venezuela, with speaker Giampaolo Orlandoni.

Improvements in the School of Arts and Sciences

The School of Business received a major facelift in the form of a building, as did the School of Education and Social Services, there are also plans in the works for Crawford to be bulldozed and resurrected in the form of a new building. However, students who are not affiliated with the School of Arts and Sciences would not notice that they too received a minor facelift in the form of funding and outreach into the community.

Plant Operations: Solutions To Saint Leo’s Growing Pains

From controlling pests, minimizing power outages, and finding solutions for the shortage of parking spaces, Plant Operations is here to help. Jose Caban, Director of Plant Operations, is constantly planning and implementing solutions to everyday problems on the Saint Leo campus. Caban and his staff are constantly maintaining and improving operations in order to ensure that students on campus are safe and comfortable. Even though large-scale construction is occurring, Caban’s staff continues to keep the Saint Leo campus clean and beautiful.

Saint Leo University is known for its close relationship with BloodNetUSA, with a focus on the core value of responsible stewardship. Throughout the academic year the university hosts numerous blood drives in association with the charity, and with Valentine’s Day approaching there is a push for one to not only give their heart, but also to consider giving some blood.

Joe Paterno dies of lung cancer at the age of 85

Joe Paterno, the face of Penn State University for 46 years, died of lung cancer Sunday, Jan. 22 at the age of 85. As head coach at Penn State, Paterno amassed more victories than any other man in the history of major college football and garnered a reputation as the epitome of integrity. His legacy, however, took a tragic turn in the fall of last year, when shocking allegations emerged against one of his long-time assistant coaches.

Martin Luther King, Jr., Celebration with Guest Speaker, Al Duncan

In celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. day, Saint Leo University invited Al Duncan, motivational speaker and tireless advocate for youth empowerment, to speak about his personal experiences, and how Martin Luther King, Jr’s philosophy on servant leadership has changed his life and helped him shape the lives of others. On Monday, Jan. 16, Father Stephan Brown welcomed everyone and started the program with an invocation prayer. Guest speaker Al Duncan was introduced and took the stage.
