On Campus Blood Donations

On September 24, 2012, blood donation buses parked outside of the Saint Leo cafeteria encouraged students to donate blood. These blue buses make a few appearances every year to bring students an opportunity to practice the core value of community.

Staff Profile: Evan Ortiz

As one walks down the hallway of the Marion Bowman Activities Center or attends any home game at Saint Leo University, one figure stands tall above the rest. At 6’8”, Evan Ortiz is not that hard to miss. Behind the height is a man who has passion and drive in making sure that the information on game day is being delivered to teams, media, and fans as quickly as possible.

The Re- Launch of WSLU for the 2012-2013 Academic Year

WSLU Radio, 107.1FM or 1620AM, was started by Saint Leo University students in 1945 and used to be carry the call letters WLEO. The station has gone through many starts and stops over the years, despite facing these many setbacks its once again is roaring its way to the Saint Leo student body.

“There are over 67,000 alumni from all fifty states and from all around the world and Eddie Kenny is the director of Alumni Relations here at Saint Leo University. Kenny hails from Zephyrhills, FL and attended Florida International University for his undergraduate in Communications and attended Nova Southeastern University for his Masters in Sports Management.

Being Gay at Saint Leo: Is it Safe?

Nearly two years ago, Rutgers freshmen Tyler Clementi committed suicide by jumping off the George Washington Bridge after his roommate outed him on the internet by broadcasting his encounter with another man on the Internet for all to see. This sent a blaze in the media and across college campuses about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered students. This affected me greatly as an openly gay student at a Catholic institution. I wondered if this could happen on the Saint Leo University campus.

Recycling Has an Impact

Over the past two years Saint Leo University has made great efforts to have the student body involved in recycling. Recycling bins are provided in the Library and in the Learning Resource Center and classrooms where students use paper the most. Saint Leo also provides students an opportunity to recycle soda cans with their dual waste baskets with one section for recycling and the other for waste materials. In addition to the students being encouraged to recycle, professors are also provided with recycling bins in their offices.
