English Majors Unite: 2015 Sigma Tau Delta Convention Recap

Who says conventions have to be boring? Many people think a convention is just sitting at over-priced, fancy dinners, attending classes that might teach them something, and being forced to listen to a guest speaker who has nothing profound to say. Others think conventions are just for nerds dressed up in costumes. However, some conventions are both fun and educational.

The Future of Student Aid

Congress has begun discussing the 2016 fiscal year budget as of Monday 23, 2015. The plan, however, proposes the slashing of approximately $150 billion in student aid. The budget cut would take affect over a period of ten years and mainly effect Pell Grants and student loans.

Fashion for Passion

On Feb 9. Saint Leo University’s Student Activities Board along with Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity Incorporated and the school’s very own Lioness dancers hosted a fashion show dedicated to a week of love for Valentine’s Day. The event contained Valentine’s Day fashion preparation, prizes and entertainment provided by various students and organizations on and off campus.

From West Point to Saint Leo University

Lennox has had a long and distinguished career before coming to the University as a member of the Board of Trustees in 2008. He attended The United States Military Academy at West Point where he received his bachelor’s degree in international affairs. He received his Master’s and PhD in Literature from Princeton University. His doctoral dissertation is on American war poetry. In addition, he graduated first in his class at Fort Leavenworth’s Command and General Officer’ s School, and he completed the Senior Service College Fellowship at Harvard University.

Weapons allowed on campus are deadly serious.

About 2 months ago at Florida Southern University (FSU) 3 students were injured at a shooting take place in their well-populated library. Concealed weapons have been prohibited on college campuses up until now but this policy may be about to change as the Florida bill is being considered allowing people on a college campus to have concealed weapons for their protection and their rights.

Technology Progression at Saint Leo University

Saint Leo College was founded in 1889 but did not have electricity until 1913, according to “Pioneer College.” The guest bathrooms received flushable toilets in 1912. In 1913, flushable toilets were installed outside for the students. In November 1916, shower baths were installed. In 1919, a 12-foot “bathing tower” was built on the shore of the lake.
