Nephtalie Jacques, Junior Criminal Justice: Homeland Security major, sat with the Lion’s Pride Newspaper  and talked about his Candidancy for Presidency of  the Student Government Election.

What experience do you have which makes you qualified for the position you’re running for and a better choice than your opponent(s)?

I am currently an SGU Senator, Chair of Philanthropy of SGU, Founder and President of the Debate Club, and Vice President of I am That Girl Club. I was also a student representative in high school.

Why do you want this position and what/who inspired or motivated you to run?

I really want this position because I feel like this is the platform to help make changes in the school. There are a lot of ideas out there, from the student body, faculty, and staff, and I want to see these brilliant ideas executed. The person who inspired me to run is Melissa Bryant. The person who is currently occupying the position. I witnessed first-hand how her determination, passion, and patience help changed the school for the better.

What do you hope to accomplish and how do you plan to accomplish these goals in your position?

My ultimate goal is to give a voice to the student body to have their interests in mind. I also want to build more community awareness around the school. With what is going on around the world, we need each other as a community.

What would your first action in office be, if you are elected?

My first action will be to continue the “transportation program” the officers who are still in office are enacting.
